Autopsy Analysis

PWT's Element Autopsy service includes a thorough examination of both the exterior and interior of the element. During the autopsy, foulant and/or membrane samples are collected and used in further analytical procedures such as LOI, T-EDXA, SEM, Biological Testing, or Infrared Analysis, and Flat Sheet Testing.

PWT's exterior inspection includes an examination for evidence of telescoping, excessive fouling or crystal development on the element's exterior, and an inspection of the element's fiberglass shell. Additionally, the element is inspected for physical blockage of the feed channel spacer and damage to the anti-telescoping devices (ATD's) or brine seals. Multiple photographs are taken to document the initial inspection.

Once the exterior inspection is complete, a thorough interior examination of the membrane is conducted by PWT technicians. During the interior inspection, each element leaf is carefully examined for delamination at the glue lines, brine spacer netting damage, permeate tube damage, membrane wrinkles, foulant discovery and any other noticeable physical attribute of the membrane. Optical microscopy is often used at this stage to further view membrane and/or foulant characteristics and can also be photographically documented.
